Jonas Dupuich is a California-based bonsai artist, teacher, grower, author, and a leading voice in the American bonsai community. Trained under bonsai master Boon Manakitivipart, Jonas has cultivated and exhibited trees for over 25 years, specializing in propagation and development of Japanese black pine.
As founder of Bonsai Tonight, a leading educational platform, and co-founder of the Pacific Bonsai Expo, Jonas has been instrumental in shaping the direction of contemporary American bonsai. His 2020 book, The Little Book of Bonsai, and his second book, The Essential Bonsai Book: Techniques for Making Beautiful Trees, published in 2025, make this centuries-old art form accessible to new audiences while preserving its aesthetic traditions.
Through exhibitions, writing, and hands-on instruction, Jonas Dupuich invites people to consider bonsai not only as cultivated trees or even nature in miniature, but as evolving sculptures that embody time, patience, and the relationship between nature and the artist.
